Three weeks passed since Pablo had become a Black Dragon. Juan let Rafael go and replaced him with Pablo making the drug deliveries. His sister was no longer in danger of being hurt by Juan. Pablo got a new bike out of the deal. He had no doubt Juan stole the bike, but it didn’t matter. Juan was fooled by his charade. Pablo realized he was walking a dangerous tightrope but helping his friend Manny and the other kids was more important. He wanted to do his part to help his new friends, two police sergeants who had shown him kindness. He was grateful for Rick’s help investigating his father’s murder. There were new leads and the police finally had something to pursue.

Pablo had to avoid Manny as much as possible. It would be too difficult to hide what he was doing from such a smart man as Detective Rodriquez. He did his chores around the parish for Father Mike and left. No one in the Black Dragons had asked him to do any spying yet, but Pablo knew it was coming.

Juan was thrilled with his new recruit and kept giving him more and more deliveries to do. It made him look good. Sandoval got the word from higher up the chain. It was time for Pablo to not only move the drugs to various small dealers, but to pick up the drugs from the gang’s stash houses. This is what Pablo had waited and hoped for. He would finally get the locations Detective Rodriquez needed.

As Juan showed him each location, Pablo made a list of the addresses, times of deliveries and the number of people at each location. He kept his list hidden under his mattress at home, never working on it until late at night when everyone was asleep. It was meticulously done. Manny’s help with Pablo’s math homework was paying off. One by one, Juan and Pablo made the rounds. Each time, he introduced Pablo to the location’s gang members in warehouses, empty stores and even an old abandoned school; ten places in all, some in Denver, others in the surrounding suburbs. They delivered the drugs from out of state, cut into portions and packaged ready for sale on the street. The money was counted and recorded. Pablo had never seen so much money in one place. It was a finely operating organization. He took it all in, observing and remembering everything he could. Once he was by himself, Pablo recorded what he saw in his notebook.

Pablo saw Tomas Juarez at a few of the places. Tomas made a point to be friendly and show Pablo around personally. This angered Juan and made him jealous. He wanted the attention Pablo was getting from Diaz’s top lieutenant. When Tomas asked Pablo if he wanted to attend a party at Emilio’s home, Juan’s jealousy hit the roof. This was not what he had planned. He was supposed to rise in favor with the big bosses not this little kid.

On Saturday, Tomas picked up Pablo in his Porsche convertible at the Projects.
